Jenkintown High School’s second annual 5K—the newly-named Red and Blue Race–is taking place on Saturday, May 21. This event is being held on the same day as the Red and Blue Fair, hoping to start a great tradition of Jenkintown community pride leading up to Color Day the following Friday. The race is raising money for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life held at JHS on June 3. The race begins at 10am sharp at the football stadium (rain or shine), with the family fun walk beginning at 9:30. Please visit brynmawrracing.com under “Calendar” to register online and see more details, or email Andrew Spiegler at spieglera@jenkintown.orgcreate new email for a hard copy application or more information. Hope to see your there!

Slow Down & Save Water – Rain Barrel Workshop
There will be a free workshop on the topic of rain barrels hosted by the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership, Inc. The workshop will be held at the Glenside Free Library on Thursday, March 3rd from 5:30pm-7:30pm.
The workshop is a chance to learn about stream pollution and ways residents can make an impact. Rain Barrels are a stream protection tool and TTF will cover how they work, why they are important, their components, location on your property and if they are suitable for your home and needs.
You do not have to purchase a rain barrel to attend the meeting, nor is it required to attend the meeting to purchase a barrel. For those who order, TTF will have the barrels shipped to a central location close to Glenside within two weeks for pick up. Each barrel costs $75.

Police Department Bike Raffle
Last summer the Jenkintown police observed many Jenkintown children practicing safety in our streets — such as using crosswalks, wearing a helmet on a bike or skateboard, and looking both ways before stepping off the sidewalk. About 100 of these children were “ticketed” and every ticket was redeemable for a prize donated by local businesses and organizations. (See below for the full list.)
It’s finally time to hold a raffle to present two lucky “defendants” from last summer with a pair of brand-new bikes, just in time for the arrival of warmer weather! The raffle prizes are a Fuji bike donated by Advanced Sports International, and a Trek bike donated by the Jenkintown Police Department. Read More »
