Jenkintown Environmental Advisory Committee “Livestream” Meeting May 6th

Jenkintown Borough would like to remind you that due to the COVID-19 Emergency and in strict observance of Governor Wolf’s “Stay at Home Order”, the Borough will livestream the Jenkintown Environmental Advisory Committees’ (JEAC) regularly scheduled meeting tomorrow, May 6th at 7:00 PM on the Borough Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/jenkintownboro. The JEAC has provided the following information for tomorrow’s meeting:

Included on the agenda is the wonderful news that lidded recycling toters will be distributed to several, medium sized, multi-family units in the borough that were found to be in need of assistance in recycling performance during the EAC survey of recycling efforts within the Borough.

The Borough Administration has applied for a PaDep 902 grant requesting funding to purchase an additional 1,500 lidded recycling toters to help improve the quality of recycling in our community. If awarded, the additional lidded toters will be distributed to the remaining solid waste account holders in Jenkintown so we can continue to keep our secondary materials (cans, glass, plastic, cardboard and paper) CLEAN and DRY, which is particularly important since the collapse of Asian recycling markets.
Another word on the recycling, in addition to keeping it clean (no greasy pizza boxes! No styrofoam!) when in doubt, throw it out!

The other terrific project going on in Jenkintown is a window victory garden project.

FOR FREE, members of the Jenkintown Environmental Advisory Committee will be setting up boxes (made of scrap wood), old dress drawers, and anything else that will hold soil and providing Borough residents with “Victory Gardens” of basic summer vegetables: tomatoes, basil, etc.

We are also using under-utilized land in the Borough to plant community gardens that will provide vegetables to anyone who wants or needs them.

We need carpenters, people with trucks (or people willing to get their car dirty) to deliver compost, gardeners, coordinators, people with storage space on their driveway in their yard for victory boxes and people with good hearts and hands.
