Hurricane Relief Fundraiser

As we’ve learned more about the hurricane devastation in Florida, Texas and the Caribbean, it’s become clear that these communities will need many helping hands to ease human suffering and help rebuild their communities.

To help Jenkintown pitch in with the recovery effort, Mayor Foley and some other residents and local businesses are holding a fundraiser.

This event will be held Saturday, September 23, from 7-12, at Uptown at the Piazza, on Town Square beneath Marzano’s Ristorante. Admission is $50 per person and includes food, drink, and live music. You can buy tickets online, or just make a donation, at http://www.bit.ly/jtowncares

All proceeds will benefit Pittsburgh-based My Brother’s Brother Foundation (brothersbrother.org), an organization that collects in-kind donations and surplus items, and ensures they get to where they are most needed in disaster zones. The group, operating since 1958, holds a 100% donor efficiency rating from Forbes Magazine.

This event would not be possible without the generosity of local merchants and residents. Use of the Uptown club was donated by Lindy Communities, and food and drink will be provided by Leila’s Bar and Restaurant, Marzano’s Ristorante, Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company, West Avenue Grille, Dajia’s Super Snacks and your friends and neighbors.

Live music by Camera Thief, Basil Khan & the Unnamed Band, Too Short Otis, Graveyard Ruckus, and Alex Bartlett.

Please contact Mayor Foley at ed.foley@gmail.com with any questions.

Please note that this is a private/community event. It is not sponsored by Jenkintown Borough and the named charity is not endorsed by the Borough. You should perform due diligence in selecting the charities you donate to.

2017 Leaf Collection Schedule

The Jenkintown Borough 2017 curbside leaf collection begins on Monday, October 30th and will continue until Wednesday, December 20th. As in previous years the Borough has been divided in to five (5) routes. Each route will be collected four (4) times.

The schedule can be viewed or printed out from the link provided: 2017 Leaf Schedule opens PDF file

The Jenkintown Borough Public Works Department works throughout the Borough to collect leaves placed at the curb. The leaves are then transported to Abington Township and processed in to mulch, that mulch is then provided free of charge to residents. The route map and pick up schedule are also posted on the Borough’s website (www.jenkintownboro.com). To access the schedule on the Borough website go to the menu on the top right-hand side under “Public Works” in the section labeled “Leaf Collection Schedule” on the Borough website and is also available at Borough Hall if you’d prefer a paper copy.

Leaves placed for pick up do not need to be bagged. Residents are asked not to rake the leaves in to the roadway prior to the night before their scheduled pick up date. Leaves that are raked in to the roadway prior to the night before are a serious safety concern as well as detrimental to storm water run off as they clog the storm drainage system. The Borough also asks that you leave room both behind and in front of the pile of leaves when parking vehicles so that the truck and leaf trailer can access the leaves to remove them. The Public Works Department utilizes Fridays as a make up day in the event inclement weather or an over abundance of leaves prohibits a route being completed as planned.

Residents are asked to please adhere to the following regulations regarding leaf collection in order to ensure a successful collection:

  • Do not put leaves in the road prior to the day before the scheduled collection (contractors who do not comply will be cited)
  • Do not park on top of leaves
  • Do not include rocks, sticks, trash, etc. for collection with leaves.  This does damage to the collection machine and results in down time for repairs.
  • Please observe all regulatory parking signs
  • Bagged leaf pick up remains the same (Every Tuesday for the entire Borough)

Please contact Borough Hall at (215) 885 – 0700 if you have any questions regarding the Leaf Collection Schedule or Process.

Thank you!
