Each year, the Montgomery County Commissioners authorize free events to prevent hazardous materials from being improperly disposed of. These events, hosted across Montgomery County, are available to residents beginning in April 2020. Tire Collection Events for Montgomery County Residents Beginning on Saturday May 9th in Blue Bell PA, Montgomery County will be hosting three tire collection events across the county, in hopes to prevent tires from being improperly disposed of and to reduce breeding grounds for disease carrying mosquitoes. The tires that are collected will be shredded and re-purposed by a local business into products for civil engineering and playground material. Jenkintown Borough is excited to announce the arrival of their brand new leaf / yard waste collection truck. In August 2018, the Borough applied for and was awarded grant funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA Dep), 902 Recycling Grant to purchase this 2020 Mack Truck w/ Leach 20 yard Compactor. The Borough’s current equipment was at the end of it’s life cycle and had begun to negatively affect the PW maintenance budget on a regular basis. The entire purchase price of $194,632.77 will be covered through grant funding received through PaDep 902 and 904 grants at no cost to Jenkintown Borough. Jenkintown Borough has been notified by PECO’s subcontractor, Henkels & McCoy, that the Accelerated Gas Infrastructure Modernization Project (AGIMP) will commence the week of Monday, March 2nd, 2020. Cheltena Avenue between Cloverly and Elm Avenues will be closed to thru traffic for approximately one week beginning Monday, March 2nd from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM to allow for the installation of new gas mains to be safely completed.
