Jenkintown Borough has been notified by PECO’s subcontractor, Henkels & McCoy, that the Accelerated Gas Infrastructure Modernization Project (AGIMP) will continue the week of Monday, March 30th, 2020. Hillside Avenue between Walnut Street and Florence Avenue AND Runnymede Avenue between West and Florence Avenues will be closed to thru traffic for approximately one week beginning Monday, March 30th from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM to allow for the installation of new gas mains to be safely completed.
Residents will continue to have access to their properties during this process. If you do not reside on this road please take another route during these times to avoid disruption of your travels.

Jenkintown Borough has been notified by the Borough’s contracted trash hauler, Republic Services, curbside trash/recycling collection will continue, as scheduled, every Friday. Republic Services has requested that all trash continue to be placed at the curb in tightly sealed plastic bags or tightly sealed metal or plastic containers with lids to ensure the safety of their workers.

Jenkintown Borough would like to share very important information regarding House Bill 1564, which passed the House on Wednesday, March 25th, 2020 and now must pass the PA State Senate. The passing of this bill would allow all Boroughs in Pennsylvania to conduct Public meetings and Borough business through telecommunication devices during a statewide emergency declaration.

Urge State Senators to Allow Local Officials to Conduct Business Via Telecommunications During an Emergency Declaration
House Bill 1564, which passed the House on Wednesday, would allow municipalities to conduct business through telecommunications devices during a statewide emergency declaration. The bill requires all council members to hear and make comments on issues. It also provides that a physical quorum is not necessary for the duration of the emergency to conduct business provided the following criteria are met.
Jenkintown Borough Council Meetings for March have been suspended. PA State Borough Code currently requires Council public meetings to have a physical quorum and in a place where the public can attend. In lieu of a Borough Council meeting, the Council President, Mayor, and Council Committee chairs met via Zoom to give an update to the public.

A major focus is to try to flatten the curve of the number of incidents and to minimize the effect on our healthcare system for the health and safety of all.

Jenkintown Borough is abiding by Governor Wolf’s “Stay at Home” order and to Montgomery County Commissioners recommendations urging people to STAY AT HOME until April 6, 2020.
We urge you to STAY AT HOME and to respect that some public spaces must be closed for the safety of all.
The school property is closed – including the tennis courts, playground, and open fields.
THE POLICE STATION & BOROUGH HALL CONTINUE TO BE CLOSED. Borough operations are limited to essential services only.
We are saddened to report that Montgomery County has informed us that there are two positive documented cases in Jenkintown Borough.
We wish the best for these individuals and hope for their complete recovery.
