Vacancies on Zoning Hearing Board, Planning Commission and Civil Service Commission

Jenkintown Borough Council is currently seeking to fill vacancies on the following Boards and Commissions:

Zoning Hearing Board – Two (2) vacancies.
The Zoning Hearing Board is a quasi – judicial body established by the PA Municipal Planning Code and consists of five members who are appointed to five year terms. Functions of the Zoning Hearing Board include reviewing applications for variances and special exceptions. Although the zoning hearing board functions like a court, formal court procedures are not strictly required. The primary purpose of the zoning hearing board is to help assure fair and equitable application and administration of the zoning ordinance. Planning Commission – Two (2) vacancies.
The Jenkintown Planning Commission consists of seven members who are appointed to four year terms. The Planning Commission is an advisory panel established by the PA Municipal Planning Code and the Borough of Jenkintown to review and offer recommendations to Borough Council and other agencies as assigned. The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to holding public meetings, review of proposed ordinances, developments, capital improvement program, environmental study and promote public interest in the Comprehensive plan. Civil Service Commission – Two (2) vacancies.
The Jenkintown Civil Service Commission is established by PA State Borough code and consists of 3 members who are appointed for staggered terms (between 2, 4 and 6 years). The Civil Service Commission may prescribe, amend and enforce rules and regulations that have first been approved by Council, pertaining to the Borough Police force.
