Jenkintown Borough would like to share the following information from the United States Census Bureau:

COVID-19:  The Census Bureau is closely monitoring COVID-19 and the health, safety, and well-being of our staff and public is our top priority.

The 2020 Census is underway and the most important thing you can do is respond online, by phone, or by mail when you receive your invitation. Responding now will minimize the need for the Census Bureau to send census takers out into communities to follow up. Please check here for regular updates.

Important: You Can Be Part of this Legislative Process

Jenkintown Borough would like to share very important information regarding House Bill 1564, which passed the House on Wednesday, March 25th, 2020 and now must pass the PA State Senate.  The passing of this bill would allow all Boroughs in Pennsylvania to conduct Public meetings and Borough business through telecommunication devices during a statewide emergency declaration.

This bill is critical to our community and the Pennsylvania Association of Boroughs has been advocating for it’s passage on our behalf. PSAB Action Alert:

Urge State Senators to Allow Local Officials to Conduct Business Via Telecommunications During an Emergency Declaration 

House Bill 1564, which passed the House on Wednesday, would allow municipalities to conduct business through telecommunications devices during a statewide emergency declaration. The bill requires all council members to hear and make comments on issues. It also provides that a physical quorum is not necessary for the duration of the emergency to conduct business provided the following criteria are met.

Council Update

Jenkintown Borough Council Meetings for March have been suspended. PA State Borough Code currently requires Council public meetings to have a physical quorum and in a place where the public can attend. In lieu of a Borough Council meeting, the Council President, Mayor, and Council Committee chairs met via Zoom to give an update to the public.

Our borough, state, country, and the world continue to be watching the progress of this COVID-19 emergency very carefully.

A major focus is to try to flatten the curve of the number of incidents and to minimize the effect on our healthcare system for the health and safety of all.

For these reasons we remind you to continue to STAY PHYSICALLY DISTANT FROM ONE ANOTHER.

Jenkintown Borough is abiding by Governor Wolf’s “Stay at Home” order and to Montgomery County Commissioners recommendations urging people to STAY AT HOME until April 6, 2020.

We urge you to STAY AT HOME and to respect that some public spaces must be closed for the safety of all.

The school property is closed – including the tennis courts, playground, and open fields.

THE POLICE STATION & BOROUGH HALL CONTINUE TO BE CLOSED. Borough operations are limited to essential services only.

We are saddened to report that Montgomery County has informed us that there are two positive documented cases in Jenkintown Borough.

We wish the best for these individuals and hope for their complete recovery.

This report underscores the need for all of us to take seriously the warnings to STAY AT HOME AND MAINTAINING SOCIAL/PHYSICAL DISTANCING.

Guidance on Governors Stay At Home Order

Jenkintown Borough would like to share the following message provided by the Jenkintown Police Department and Borough Officials regarding guidance on Governor Wolf’s latest Orderopens PDF file  dated March 23, 2020

“Dear residents and business owners,
The Jenkintown Police Department and Borough Officials are committed to the safety and well being of all our residents and business owners.

During this time of crisis and uncertainty we should all work together to flatten the curve of this pandemic.  It will pass and life will get back to normal.  What we are learning about this is the importance of hand washing and social distance to dramatically reduce infections.

The Governor’s order to close all non-life sustaining businessopens PDF file will be enforced by the Montgomery County Department of Health and local law enforcement agencies.

During yesterday’s press conference, Governor Tom Wolf and Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine issued “Stay at Home” orders to Allegheny, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Monroe, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. This order took effect at 8:00 PM on yesterday, Monday, March 23, and will continue until April 6, 2020. A full copy of the Stay at Home Guidance can be found attached here. SEPTA SERVICE INFORMATION AND UPDATES

Jenkintown Borough continues to update the Borough website with the latest COVID-19 information and community resources that have been provided by County, State, and Federal agencies. The Borough continues to encourage everyone to follow the CDC guidelines including handwashing, social distancing and covering of your cough/sneezes. SEPTA Service Information and Updates

SEPTA Coronavirus (COVID-19) Service Update

Thank you for your assistance in communicating SEPTA service adjustments and other information to your constituents, residents, employees and stakeholders.  It has been extremely helpful for our customers and employers to have these messages so prominently shared by your offices.  We ask you to follow and keep checking the online and social media resources posted further below in this message and encourage you to recommend your constituents do the same.  SEPTA continues to update the public on its coronavirus efforts online at http://www.septa.org/notice/coronavirus-tips.html.

Adjustments to CCT Service and Application Processes

  • Same Day Reservations – Beginning Tuesday, March 24, registered CCT Customers (ADA/Shared Ride) may make same-day reservations to/from select destinations: medical facilities, pharmacies, supermarkets, and food distribution centers.  These trips will be provided on a space available basis until further notice.  To make a same day trip, you may contact the CCT Control Center at 215-580-7720 or 215-580-7145 then press #2.  Standard fares will apply.  Advanced reservations will be will continue to be taken as usual.
  • CCT Applications and Functional Assessments – CCT Applications and Functional Assessments – Due to social distancing measures and reduced staffing, SEPTA is unable to process CCT eligibility applications or accept new applications until further notice.  Similarly, SEPTA has also suspended all functional assessments.  Customers who  scheduled functional assessments prior to Monday, March 23 will be contacted by CCT staff and will be deemed eligible for CCT service on a temporary basis until application and functional assessment activities resume.
  • Reduced Fare and Senior Fare Cards – Due to social distancing measures and reduced staffing, SEPTA is unable to process applications for new or replacement Reduced Fare or Senior Key ID Cards until further notice.  Additionally, SEPTA reminds all customers that SEPTA Key Senior & Reduced Fare Card processing programs at SEPTA Headquarters and the Accessible Travel Center at Suburban Station remain closed.
