Smeal Report 2020: Jenkintown Borough Police Department Study

The Jenkintown Borough Council and Mayor Gabe Lerman felt it was necessary to release the Smeal Report completed in 2020 regarding the Jenkintown Borough Police Department with very limited redactions. The redactions that are part of this release are specific to the security of the Police Department facility and specific
investigative operational information. All recommendations for improving the operations and performance of the Police Department are visible for the public to review. We understand the concerns raised to why this was not published in this manner originally. We felt it was necessary to correct that decision and be
completely transparent regarding the issues and concerns that are affecting possible decisions regarding police service in the Borough.

SNOW EMERGENCY DECLARATION

Jenkintown Borough has declared a Snow Emergency, effective from 10:00 PM Friday, February 16th through 12:00 NOON, Saturday, February 17th.

Due to anticipated snow this evening and into tomorrow, with freezing temperatures, and to protect the health, safety, and welfare of affected residents, business owners and travelers traversing the Borough, Jenkintown Borough Mayor Lerman has declared a Snow Emergency in Jenkintown Borough.

Residents are requested to move all vehicles from the streets, if possible. If you have a driveway, please park in it. If not, please park as close to the curb as possible so plow trucks can clear roadways without obstructions.

Sidewalks must be clear of snow and ice 24 hrs after snow has ceased falling.

If you must travel, please use extreme caution. Borough crews have salted all roads in the Borough and will be working to keep roads clear.

TRASH AND RECYCLE CURBSIDE COLLECTION CHANGED DUE TO STORM

Due to the pending snowstorm, the Borough’s contracted waste hauler Republic Services will be providing curbside collection of trash and recycling tomorrow morning (Friday). The collection will begin at 4:00 AM to allow the entire Borough to be collected before the forecasted storm worsens.

Please place your trash and recycling curbside today (Thursday) and it will be picked up tomorrow morning (Friday) starting at 4:00 AM.

This unusual service hour was offered by Republic Services and accepted by the Borough to enable the weekly curbside pickup to take place safely and allow employees that are performing the work to travel safely.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during these forecasted severe weather conditions.

If you have any questions regarding the collection schedule, please contact Borough Hall at (215) 885 – 0700.
