Road Closures Scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday Sept. 18

With the school year just under way, the contractor, NJS Concrete, has been working diligently to promptly complete the project to minimize any delays that might occur during the morning and afternoon commute. On Tuesday, September 18th from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM,  the following roads will be closed to all through traffic, Leedom Street between Cherry Street and Shoemaker Avenue, Hillside Avenue between Cedar Street and York Road, and Johnson Street between Hillside Avenue and Cherry Street, to allow for the excavation and installation of the handicap ramps at the above listed roads. During this time, residents will have access to their driveways; those that will be affected have been alerted by Public Works.

National Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week

As part of National Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week, which runs from September 23-29, the Jenkintown Police Department, Buckle Up PA and the PA Traffic Injury Prevention Project announced they will partner in enforcement mobilization to help reduce child injuries and fatalities.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children. Every 33 seconds, a child under the age of 13 is involved in a crash. In 2016, 826 children were killed in passenger vehicle crashes. Based upon known usage, 38% of those children occupants were unrestrained.

Temporary Lane Closures Tomorrow 

The 300 Block of Hillside Avenue will be closed tomorrow, Thursday September 13th, from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM. In addition to Hillside Avenue being closed, temporary lane closures will occur on: 

  • 400 block of Florence Avenue
  • 300 & 500 block of Summit Avenue
  • 300 block of Walnut Street

These lane closures will take place to allow for Asplundh, a PECO contractor to trim trees around power lines. During this time, residents will have full access to their driveways and will be open to all through traffic. There will be no parking signs listed on the above listed streets to allow for safety precautions.

Please make plans to take an alternate route to avoid further disruption of your travels. Thank you for your patience and understanding while these necessary improvements are made. Summit Avenue Road Closure Tomorrow

Summit Avenue will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday September 12th, between Wyncote Road and Walnut Street from 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM. The closure will take place to allow for Asplundh, a PECO contractor to trim trees around power lines. During this time, the use of driveways on Summit Avenue may be disrupted – those who will be affected should have been notified by Jenkintown Public Works.

Planning Commission Meeting Re-scheduled

Due to the regularly scheduled Planning Commission meeting falling on the Holy Holiday of Yom Kippur, the Planning Commission meeting has been re-scheduled for Monday, September 17th, at 6:30 PM. The meeting will be held at Borough Hall.
The applicant for “Summit House” will be making their second Subdivision Land Development (SALDO) appearance before the Commission. The agenda will be posted on the Borough’s website as soon as it is approved by the Planning Commission.
