2018 Paving Project Update

Today, Thursday, November 1st, the Borough’s subcontractor, General Asphalt Paving Co., has completed the paving and sealing of the curb line on all roads of the 2018 Paving Project. Additionally, the speed humps have been installed on Hillside Avenue and Cedar Street. The 2018 Paving Project will be completed after all roads have been properly striped for traffic safety.

General Asphalt is scheduled to complete the striping of the newly paved roadways on Friday, November 2nd, 2018. However, severe rainstorms are forecasted for Friday and we will be following the weather and will keep residents up to date on any changes that might occur. During the striping, the roadways will be temporarily closed to through traffic. Please make plans to take an alternate route during the times listed to avoid further disruption to your travels.

Wyncote Road Closure Today

Wyncote Road between Mather Road and Highland Avenue will be closed today to all through traffic from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM, however residents will have access to their driveways. Infrasource, a subcontractor of PECO has notified the Borough that they will be installing a new gas line on Wyncote Road. Please make plans to take an alternate route during the time listed to avoid further disruption to your travels. Thank you for your patience and understanding while these necessary repairs are made.

2018 Paving Project Update

Today, Wednesday, October 31st, the Borough’s subcontractor, General Asphalt Paving Co., has completed the paving on Hillside Avenue between Walnut Street & York Road, Leedom Street between Hillside & Cloverly Avenues and Florence Avenue between West & Runnymede Avenues. Additionally, the speed humps have been installed on Hillside Avenue and Cedar Street.

Although all paving has been completed, General Asphalt Paving Co. will be completing the sealing of the curb lines onf all newly paved roadways tomorrow, November 1st. This process will begin at 7:00 AM and is expected to end at 4:00 PM. Due to the sealing taking place at the curb line, there will be no parking on Hillside Avenue between Walnut Street & York Road, Leedom Street between Hillside & Cloverly Avenues and Florence Avenue between West & Runnymede Avenues.

Trick or Treating in the Jenkintown Business District Tonight!

Happy Halloween Jenkintown! Please head over to the Jenkintown Business District to take part in some early trick-or-treating! The business district will be distributing candy from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM tonight, so head over in your costume after school and enjoy some treats! Please be aware that not all shops will be passing out candy – you should be looking for a pumpkin photo in the window (or paw pad for our furry friends!)

Latest Borough Parking Updates

During the January 24th, 2018 Council Meeting, Jenkintown Borough Council approved a contract with ParkMobile, an online parking payment system. The ParkMobile program will allow residents and visitors to conveniently pay through their cellphones, in hopes of eliminating the practice and anxiety of having to ‘feed the meter’ when guests would rather be able to enjoy their stay in town watching a movie, shopping, or dining without the additional reason to feel worried. We’re excited to announce that Jenkintown Borough is on schedule to launch this new online payment option with ParkMobile in November 2018. More information will be distributed once the website goes live.

Additionally, in 2017 a parking study was completed by the Montgomery County Planners & the Jenkintown Borough Administration per the request of Borough Council.  In analyzing the results of all research, it was determined that the current parking fees and rate structure, which had not been updated in decades, was no longer sufficient to support its current operating costs. In fact, it was determined that the costs to provide parking within the Borough and surrounding Boroughs & Townships, have risen considerably.
