TOMORROW, July 30, 2019, at 6:30 PM the Jenkintown Environmental Advisory Committee will host a Special Informative Demonstration at their “Block Party Community Event”. Greenwood Avenue will be closed to vehicles from Leedom Street to the entrance of the municipal parking lot from 6:30 to 9:00 PM to make room for the festivities. The JEAC has arranged for an Expert, Solar Powered Technology Presentation by Ph.D. Candidate, Nicholas Valdes of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Institute of Energy Conversion University of Delaware.

Early Trash & Recycling Pick Up Friday, July 19th

A “Code Red” Hot Weather Health Warning has been issued for Montgomery County from today until Sunday, July 21, 2019.

Due to the extreme heat expected on Friday, July 19, 2019, the Borough has authorized the contracted Trash/Recycling hauler to begin curbside pickup earlier then the contracted time of 7:00 AM to ensure the safety of the workers. Republic does not anticipate the workers beginning prior to 6:30 AM. Jenkintown Borough residents may want to place items for curbside pick up out on Thursday night to avoid missing the early pick up on Friday morning.

Traffic Light Upgrades Being Made on RT 611 York Road Beginning 7/15

Jenkintown’s “Green Light Go” Construction Project will begin Monday, July 15th.  

This project will complete the upgrade of all Borough traffic lights to LED and install battery back-up devices on all York Road traffic lights. The project funding will also supply three mini electrical generators for emergency situations. Construction will begin at the intersection of York Road & Washington Lane, then proceed North on York Road in the direction of  West Avenue.  The contract for this project is open until early fall but the actual work is expected to be completed by mid August 2019.

ROAD CLOSURE- TOMORROW, July 12TH- 600 Block of Summit Ave.

Summit Avenue will be closed tomorrow, Friday, July 12th, between Leedom and Cedar Streets from 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM.  Unforeseen utility conflicts were encountered by the contractor of the Summit House Apartments’ sanitary sewer project.  This minor delay on the “Right of Way/ Roadway” portion of the project is expected to last one day and be completed by the end of the workday on Friday, July 12th.
