• 2023/24 DCED – Community & Economic Assistance Program (CEAP) – $15,268.50
This funding allowed the Borough to purchase 18 new collection receptacles, 9 trash and 9 recycle and add an additional 9 public recycling and trash collection sites throughout the Borough. The purchase of the 18 trash and recycling collection cans, at $15,268.50 from Global Industrial. 100% of the project material cost was funded through this grant opportunity.
Jenkintown Borough previously had 23 public recycling and trash collection can sites throughout the Borough. These sites have been strategically placed on the arterial roads, around the Town Square and sporadically placed throughout the business district. JB Public Works Department empties the collections cans two days a week as part of their assigned duties. The JB Environmental Action Committee worked with the Public Works Department to identify the areas in the business district, York Road, Train Station and near the Jenkintown School where there are not currently collection cans, and in areas where loose trash, bottles, cans and papers accumulate on a regular basis. This funding assisted in reducing the loose trash and pollution that is being created in our environment and increase our recycling capabilities.
The Public Works Foreman completed the procurement through a COSTARS vendor who provided discounted price with No shipping charge. The Borough was able to purchase the collection cans and the Public Works Department placed them in the designated locations where they will be most utilized. Increasing the trash / recycling collection stations from 23 to 32 will increase the Borough’s ability to neatly and safely contain and dispose of the trash and recycling waste in these public areas by approximately 40%.
Any in-kind services to unload, distribute, place, map and provide announcements was provided by the JB Public Works Department.
