In Partnership with ClearGov, Jenkintown Brings Clarity to Local Government Finances

JENKINTOWN, PA (September 26, 2017)  – The Borough of Jenkintown announced today that it has partnered with ClearGov, a leading fiscal clarity and benchmarking platform for municipalities, to launch an infographic-based financial dashboard.

This new tool provides taxpayers an easy-to-understand, visual breakdown of Jenkintown’s finances, as well as insights into the Borough’s demographics. The site also informs visitors how each budget item compares to neighboring communities.

Jenkintown is part of a growing movement of municipalities that are taking financial clarity to a new level with ClearGov. ClearGov provides basic profiles on every municipality in the country but Jenkintown is the very first community in Pennsylvania to create their customized financial dashboard on the platform. Jenkintown Borough passed Ordinance #2017-5, on May 27^th, 2017 pertaining to Residential Use & Occupancy Certification. This Ordinance was approved to continue to maintain public safety as well as lessen the impact on the environment by reviewing the integrity of the private sewer lateral.

This inspection will take place at the time of the sale of a residential property. The Residential Use & Occupancy Inspection encompasses four areas of compliance; a notarized affidavit of smoke detectors, curb and sidewalk compliance, 4 inch property address (numbering) and a videotaping of the sewer lateral at the property, from the house to the main. Any defects observed in these four areas would need to be resolved prior to the issuance of the permanent Use & Occupancy Certificate. Read More »

U.S Congressman Brandan Boyle and State Representative Steve McCarter will have open offices from 9 AM until 8 PM on Tuesday, September 26th to allow individuals who are unable to meet during normal business hours, full access to state and federal government – related services.

Congressman Boyle’s staff will be available to answer questions and address concerns involving the federal government, such as veterans’ benefits, federal student loans, Social Security and Medicare, passports and visas and IRS issues.
No appointments are necessary – Steve McCarter’s office is located at 115 E. Glenside Avenue, Glenside, PA 19038 – Suite 8. Congressman Boyle is located at the same address, Suite 1.

As the PECO Gas Main project has been completed on Cloverly Avenue, an agreement has been reached between Abington Township, Jenkintown Borough and PECO which includes curb to curb paving on Cloverly Avenue from York Road to Runnymede Avenue.

The Borough has been notified by PECO that their subcontractor, Giuliani, is scheduled to begin milling Cloverly Avenue between York Road and Runnymede Avenue on Wednesday September 20th, beginning at 7:00AM and ending by 5:00PM. As we’ve learned more about the hurricane devastation in Florida, Texas and the Caribbean, it’s become clear that these communities will need many helping hands to ease human suffering and help rebuild their communities.

To help Jenkintown pitch in with the recovery effort, Mayor Foley and some other residents and local businesses are holding a fundraiser.

This event will be held Saturday, September 23, from 7-12, at Uptown at the Piazza, on Town Square beneath Marzano’s Ristorante. Admission is $50 per person and includes food, drink, and live music. You can buy tickets online, or just make a donation, at http://www.bit.ly/jtowncares. 

All proceeds will benefit Pittsburgh-based My Brother’s Brother Foundation (brothersbrother.org), an organization that collects in-kind donations and surplus items, and ensures they get to where they are most needed in disaster zones. The group, operating since 1958, holds a 100% donor efficiency rating from Forbes Magazine.

This event would not be possible without the generosity of local merchants and residents. Use of the Uptown club was donated by Lindy Communities, and food and drink will be provided by Leila’s Bar and Restaurant, Marzano’s Ristorante, Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company, West Avenue Grille, Dajia’s Super Snacks and your friends and neighbors.
