2020 Radon Poster Contest for Students

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is excited to announce the 2020 Radon Poster Contest for students.

The U.S. Surgeon General lists radon exposure as the second leading cause of lung cancer.  Radon is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that enters homes through cracks in the foundation, becoming part of the air indoors. It’s estimated that 40 percent of homes in Pennsylvania have elevated levels of radon, and conducting a simple radon test is the only way to detect the amount of radon present.

Students ages 9-14 years old as of November 30 are encouraged to combine science and art by creating an educational poster that shows the physical aspects of radon, the harmful effects of indoor radon gas, or the importance of testing for radon in the home. Read More »

AQUA Water Main Project Road Closures for September 30th & October 1st

AQUA’s sub contractor, Caddick Utilities, will continue the second phase of the excavation and watermain installation project on Monday, September 30 and Tuesday, October 1, 2019.  Vernon Road will be closed to “thru traffic” from Homestead Road to Rydal Road from 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM to allow for the roadway to be excavated and the new watermain to be safely installed.  Flaggers and signage will be on site to help control the flow of traffic during this process and residents will continue to have access to their properties. If you do not reside on one of these roads please plan to take another route during these times to avoid disruption to your travels

AQUA Water Main Project Road Closures for September 26

AQUA’s sub contractor, Caddick Utilities, will continue the second phase of the excavation and water-main installation project on Thursday, September 26, 2019 between the hours of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  The following closures will take place during this time to allow for the roadway to be excavated and the new water-main to be safely installed:     

West Avenue will be closed to “thru traffic” from Vernon Road to Newbold Road,
Newbold Road will be closed to “thru traffic” from West Avenue to Washington Lane,
Homestead Road will be closed to “thru traffic” from Cottman Street to Vernon Road,

Chili Cook-Off & Pie-Eating Contest 2019

Please join the Jenkintown Recreation Board on Saturday, October 12th at 1:00 PM in Town Square for the 10th Annual Jenkintown Chili Cook-Off!  Back by popular demand is the Pie Eating Contest.  Chili tasting and judging will be $5 per person.

This year’s special musical guest is Staff Infection Duo to provide some appetite-whetting tunes.

Vernon Road will be closed to “thru traffic” from Homestead Road to Washington Lane,
Homestead Road will be closed to “thru traffic” from Cottman Street to York Road,
West Avenue will have temporary road closures from Vernon Road to Newbold Road AND
York Road will have temporary lane closures from West Avenue to Homestead Road
