Jenkintown Borough Unveils New “Lawn/Leaf” Recycle Truck

Jenkintown Borough is excited to announce the arrival of their brand new leaf / yard waste collection truck. In August 2018, the Borough applied for and was awarded grant funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA Dep), 902 Recycling Grant to purchase this 2020 Mack Truck w/ Leach 20 yard Compactor. The Borough’s current equipment was at the end of it’s life cycle and had begun to negatively affect the PW maintenance budget on a regular basis. The entire purchase price of $194,632.77 will be covered through grant funding received through PaDep 902 and 904 grants at no cost to Jenkintown Borough.

The Borough’s Public Works team will be able to maximize their time and productivity by implementing this exciting new equipment.  The truck is designed and equipped with a fuel efficient “Certified Clean Idle” Mack Engine, as well as a Leach optimal compacting mechanism that will allow for safer/quicker routes, increased productivity, and lower operational costs.

The Borough would like to thank the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for these grant awards and all of those who have provided support throughout the application and purchase process. There will be an upcoming Art Contest to assist in choosing a beautiful composition on the sides of the vehicle promoting recycling efforts and the positive benefits the yard debris / leaf recycling program has on the environment. Stay tuned for announcements through the J.B. Environmental Action and the Public Works Committees in the coming months for the details and specifics of that contest and how to become involved and/or participate.
