The “Community Spotlight” feature on the Borough’s website has been updated, always see what’s happening on the Borough website!
The latest “Community Spotlight” highlights the Borough’s continued efforts to utilize green renewable energy to reduce our carbon footprint and the use of fossil fuels.
One of the Recommendation / Strategies (S5) being introduced and implemented from the Jenkintown 2035 Comprehensive Plan is the move toward Clean Energy. The Borough has been a leader in environmental issues lead by the efforts of an extremely active and dedicated Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC). The EAC meets at Borough hall on the First Wednesday of every month and has discussions on many different topics that affect the environment. They frequently have guest speakers on special topics and the meetings are always educational and informative.
The current projects that the EAC is coordinating efforts on with other Borough entities include the feasibility/implementation and installation coordination of electric vehicle charging stations within the Borough, tenable residential landscape, home energy assessments and the planning of sustainable plantings and features at Cedar Street Moretti Park.
The next EAC Special event is a Community Block Party to be held in conjunction with the Summer Music Series and Farmers Market on Tuesday, August 27th, on Greenwood Avenue at Town Square. There will be a “Hydrogen Car” on display by PDC Machines that drove 360 miles on only 4 gallons of water. There will be Free Live Music, Free Face Painting (Painting with a Twist) and Free Pizza (Upper Crust). Please see all the details here.
The Jenkintown Borough Planning Commission will host the next electric vehicle charging station conversation presentation at their next regularly scheduled Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday, August 13th at 6:30 PM here at Borough hall, 700 Summit Avenue.
