Jenkintown’s “Green Light Go” Construction Project will begin Monday, July 15th.
This project will complete the upgrade of all Borough traffic lights to LED and install battery back-up devices on all York Road traffic lights. The project funding will also supply three mini electrical generators for emergency situations. Construction will begin at the intersection of York Road & Washington Lane, then proceed North on York Road in the direction of West Avenue. The contract for this project is open until early fall but the actual work is expected to be completed by mid August 2019.
These safety devices and upgrades to the traffic lights on this project are being funded by the 2017 PENNDOT Green Light Go grant that the Borough had applied for and received. Once completed this project will assist to improve the life safety of the General Public, Jenkintown Police Department and the Public Works Department workers during emergency situations. In addition to life safety, this automatic battery back up system that will reinstate the traffic light operation, will save the Borough on overtime expenses.
While the installation of these battery back up systems may cause minor traffic delays, at this time there are no planned road closures / detours, if we are notified differently by PENNDOT we will send out notification as appropriate.
