Montgomery County New Voter-Marked Paper Ballot System

Hello Jenkintown Residents,

Just a reminder that Montgomery County has a new voting system! Instead of voting on polling machines, voters will be filling out paper ballots. On Tuesday, May 21, Montgomery County will be holding primary elections using this new system.

On Tuesday, the polls will be open from 7 AM to 8 PM. Once you arrive at your designated polling location, you will be handed a paper ballot, and the voting will still be private. Once you complete your ballot, you submit it to a scanning device that will tabulate the votes and deposit it into a secure container.
If you are incapable of filling out the paper ballot, every poll will have a ballot marking device compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). If you make a mistake on the ballot, the scanner will detect the mistake and prompt the voters if they want to correct it or cast it “as is.” If a ballot is marked incorrectly it may be exchanged for a new one.

Even though it is too late to register for the Tuesday, May 21 primary elections, you can still register to vote at any time for the upcoming November general elections. In order to register to vote, you must be a citizen of the United States for at least one month before the next election. You must be a resident of Pennsylvania and the election district in which the individual desires register and vote for at least 30 days before the next election. You also must be eighteen years or older before the next election.
