Jenkintown Borough, in conjunction with Community Leaders and Salem Baptist Church, will be hosting an event this Monday, January 21st at 12:00 PM, noon, at Salem Baptist Church located at the intersection of Leedom Street and Summit Avenue. To accommodate this event, Summit Avenue between Leedom & Cedar Streets and Willow Street between Leedom & Cedar Streets will be closed for approximately one hour.
This event is to recognize Salem Baptist Church and the significant contribution they have made to the Jenkintown Community as it has been in operation for over 120 years. Founded in 1884, Salem Baptist has been a beacon for many within the Borough and neighboring areas.
Reverend Marshall Mitchell of Salem Baptist Church, will be speaking and accepting the recognition. Salem Baptist Church is the first African-American Church in Montgomery County and has been a way station for believers of all walks of life. This event has been organized to recognize the significant contribution to the community as well as observe the notable history of Salem Baptist Church of Jenkintown.
This year, on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Borough is hopeful residents will be able to attend.
