MLK Day and Salem Baptist Recognition / Borough Hall Hours

This year, on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 21st, the Borough in conjunction with Community Leaders and Salem Baptist Church, will be hosting an event at 12:00 noon, in front of the former Salem Baptist Church building located at the intersection of Leedom Street and Summit Avenue. To accommodate this event, Summit Avenue between Leedom & Cedar Streets and Willow Street between Leedom & Cedar Streets will be closed for approximately one hour.

Distinguished Community Leaders presently confirmed to speak will be Reverend Marshall Mitchell of Salem Baptist Church (who will be speaking and accepting the recognition), Pa State Representative Steve McCarter and Borough Council President Deborra Sines Pancoe.

This event has been organized to recognize the significant contribution to the community as well as observe the notable history of Salem Baptist Church of Jenkintown. Founded in 1884, Salem Baptist Church was the first African-American Church in Montgomery County and has been “a way station for believers of all walks of life” for over 120 years.

Borough Hall will be open as a comfort station during this event.

Jenkintown Borough Administration will be closed on Monday, January 21st, 2019 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Borough Hall will re-open for its normal business hours on Tuesday, January 22nd at 8:00 AM. If there is an emergency during this time, please dial 911.

We hope to see everyone there!
