2018 Paving and Handicap Ramp Project

The construction on the 2018 Handicap Ramp Project is 90% complete. To date 51 of the planned 55 handicap ramps have been installed. Constructing handicap ramps on existing roads and conditions that meet current code standards can be challenging and in some cases included unexpected incidental construction. The Borough Engineer, Borough Administration, Public Works Foreman and Contractor (NJS) have coordinated efforts to successfully mitigate these issues. The final intersection to have the code compliant handicap ramps installed is Greenwood Avenue and Walnut Street. That construction began today, Tuesday, October 2nd and includes required storm drainage work to be performed.Once all handicap ramps have been constructed final restoration will be performed on all 55 handicap ramps.

The exact date that the 2018 paving project will commence will be known later this week but is expected to begin by the end of next week. Once the specific dates are determined those dates will be provided through the Borough notification process as well as direct notice to the residents on the roads to be milled and paved. The paving contractor (General Asphalt) expects the project to be completed in 7 to 10 days once the project has commenced.

The 2018 paving project includes the following work:

  • Milling and paving of the following roads: Florence  Avenue (West Avenue to Runnymede Avenue), Hillside Avenue (Walnut Street to York Road) and Leedom Street (Hillside Avenue to Cloverly Avenue).
  • Re-installation of the speed hump on Hillside Avenue, installation of a speed hump on Cedar Street and possible installation of a speed hump on Leedom Street.
  • Safety enhancement striping at Hillside Avenue and Walnut Street to include; four colonial striped crosswalks, stop bars and updated high reflectivity signage.

There will be continued communication and updates during this project that will include scheduling, parking restrictions, road restrictions and or closures.

The Borough is looking forward to have these projects completed and would like to thank all the residents and business owners for your patience and understanding during this infrastructure improvement, restoration and repaving of the roads.

Thank you and if you should have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact Borough hall at (215) 885 0700.
