Last night Independent Fire Company, Pioneer Fire Company and Jenkintown Police Department were dispatched for a possible collapse of a building on Leedom Street.
Independent Fire Company, Pioneer Fire Company, Jenkintown Police Department, the Borough Administration and Borough Engineer assessed the situation and determined that a full analysis of the structure would be made in the morning. The scene was made safe overnight with crews periodically assessing the scene for changing conditions.
This morning, the Borough Administration commissioned a Structural Engineer to evaluate the structure. The determination was made that a portion of the building must be removed to bring the property into a safe condition.
Currently, demolition crews are on scene and removing the portion of the structure that has been deemed unsafe. For the safety of the crew, the Borough will be closing Leedom Street between West & Hillside Avenues as well as Cherry Street between Leedom & Johnson Streets. These roads will open as soon as the work is completed.
Please make plans to take an alternate route to avoid further disruption to your travels. Thank you for your patience and understanding while this necessary work takes place.
