Where is the Borough Hall/Office located?

Borough Hall is located at 700 Summit Avenue off of Route 611 between Greenwood Avenue and Harper Avenue in the front of the Police Station. Borough Hall is open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Where is the post office?

The Post Office is located at 601 West Avenue and can be contacted at 1-800-275-8777. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM and Saturday 9:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

Where is the closest social security office?

The Social Security Office located on the 100 block West Avenue closed on October 1, 2012.  Residents of Jenkintown Borough who need to visit the Social Security Office should utilize the Germantown office located at 5000 Wissahickon Avenue, third floor, Philadelphia, PA.  Please call 1-800-772-1213 if you have any questions.

Where is the closest IRS office?

The IRS office in the area is located at 200 Lakeside Drive Horsham PA 19044 , and can be contacted at 215-887-6134. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Why was my trash not picked up?

Trash must be place at the curb no later than 7:00 AM on the day of the collection. Only 6 bags or cans of household generated trash will be taken per collection day. If these criteria were met, and your trash was not picked up, please contact Borough Hall. Trash cans may be placed at the curbside no sooner than 5:00 PM the evening before collection and must be removed by 7:30 PM on the evening of collection.

How do I get a new recycling bucket?

Starting in 2012, the Borough will no longer distribute recycling buckets.  Residents may obtain recycling stickers for free at the Borough Hall to place on a container of their own choosing for disposing of recyclables.

How do I get rid of bulk items/white goods?

The Public Works Department offers a special collection on the first and third Wednesday of every month . The fee varies depending upon the items that are collected. The fee is non-refundable and only those items that are on the list will be collected. You must arrange and pay for a special collection no later than 3:00 PM the Monday before the collection.

The County collects hazardous materials on four days throughout the year. Please call or visit Borough Hall to determine the schedule.

Can I pay my trash bill at Borough Hall?

Yes.

I believe that my trash bill is incorrect, what do I do?

If you believe that you have received an incorrect bill, please call Borough Hall.

When is yard debris collected?

Yard debris is collected in the biodegradable bags throughout the year on Tuesdays for all households. Curbside leaf collection occurs from October through December, a schedule of which will be posted on the Public Works page.

What do I need a permit for?

A permit is required for any type of structural changes, the addition of sheds, fences, driveways, patios. decks, porches, signage, adding or removing walls (including outside retaining walls) HVAC work, adding or moving of electrical or plumbing lines. If you are unsure if the work you are doing will require a permit, please call Borough Hall during business hours at 215-885-0700 to inquire.

How do I obtain a permit?

Permit applications can be obtained at Borough Hall or on the Codes and Forms page. Applications can be submitted in person at Borough Hall or via mail at 700 Summit Ave., Jenkintown, PA 19046. No application will be accepted without proof of insurance, the permit fee, and any necessary plans and specifications. Do I need a permit for a yard sale?

Permits are not required at this time for a yard sale. Please be advised that you are not permitted to post any signage for a yard sale on sign, light, or utility poles.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster/Can I put a dumpster in the street?

Residential – If a resident is doing a home improvement themselves and they require a dumpster, a permit must be applied for, but the permit fee is waived. If a contractor requires a dumpster, a permit must be applied for, the dumpster permit fee for a contractor is $50.00 for each permit.

Non-residential – Any dumpsters for an improvement to a non-residential property requires a permit. The permit fee is $50.00 for each permit or for the request to renew a permit.

If a Dumpster is to be placed on the street, it will be the permitee’s responsibility to insure the safety of the general public through use of safety cones, caution tape, and/or flashing warning lights.  Dumpsters are not permitted to block the sidewalk.

How do I find out if an address is in the Borough?

Call Borough Hall at 215-885-0700.

How do I find out who owns a property?

Call the Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds at 610-278-3000 or go to the Montgomery County website.

How do I begin a business?

In order to operated a business or rental property in the Borough, one must first complete a Zoning and Use Permit Application, which can be obtained at Borough Hall or on the Codes and Forms page. There is a $50.00 application fee. If the Zoning and Use Permit Application is approved, you may begin the process of opening your business.

How do I obtain a business license?

Once the Zoning and Use Permit Application is mailed back to the applicant, the applicant can call Berkheimer Associates to register the business. Berkheimer can be reached at 610-599-3140.

What are the local Borough taxes?

The local taxes for residents are the real estate tax, the per capita tax, local services tax and the earned income tax. Local taxes for businesses are the business privilege tax, mercantile tax and the occupational privilege tax.

Can I pay my taxes at Borough Hall?

Real Estate Taxes must be mailed to or paid to the Tax Collector, Elizabeth Wolff in her office at 100 West Avenue, Suite 916 W Jenkintown, PA 19046.  For all other taxes listed above, contact H A Berkheimer.  For questions regarding school taxes, please contact the Jenkintown School District.

How do I reach the Tax Collector?

The Borough Tax Collector, Elizabeth Wolff, can be reached at 215.884.4400. Her office hours are Monday, and Friday 12:30 p.m-3:30 p.m. and Wednesdays 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Ms. Wolff’s office is located at 100 West Avenue, Suite 916 W, Jenkintown, PA 19046.

How do I find out who my Council Members are?
