Help us spread the word about the 2020 Census!

Ensure an Accurate Count in 2020

The 2020 Census is underway, and households across the United States are responding every day. By now, you likely have received multiple mailings from the U.S. Census Bureau, including an invitation to respond to the 2020 Census and follow-up postcards and letters.

What Can You Do To Help?

While great progress is being made in the 2020 Census and more than half of U.S. households have responded—that’s 83,600,000 households so far—there is still more work to be done. Visit the 2020 Census response rate map to see what percentage of households have responded in cities and towns across the country.  The Borough of Jenkintown is at 62.7% self response rate.  (79.6% is 2010)
If you have already responded to the 2020 Census, thank you! Now we need your help to fulfill our constitutional duty to count everyone across the U.S. and its five territories. Using social media, you can easily inform others of the importance of the census and encourage them to respond.

Included on the agenda is the wonderful news that lidded recycling toters will be distributed to several, medium sized, multi-family units in the borough that were found to be in need of assistance in recycling performance during the EAC survey of recycling efforts within the Borough.

The Borough Administration has applied for a PaDep 902 grant requesting funding to purchase an additional 1,500 lidded recycling toters to help improve the quality of recycling in our community. If awarded, the additional lidded toters will be distributed to the remaining solid waste account holders in Jenkintown so we can continue to keep our secondary materials (cans, glass, plastic, cardboard and paper) CLEAN and DRY, which is particularly important since the collapse of Asian recycling markets. Gov. Wolf announced that next Friday, May 8, some — but not all — restrictions will lift in 24 counties with low population density, low per capita COVID-19 case counts and where case numbers have stabilized. They will be moving from the red stage the governor described last week to the yellow cautionary stage. Businesses unable to maintain social distancing such as gyms, theaters, schools and restaurants will remain closed. Organized sports are also not allowed in the yellow phase. More on the plan to incrementally open the commonwealth here.

The Borough continues to encourage everyone to follow the Governor’s latest “Stay at Home Order” as well as the CDC guidelines including hand washing, social distancing and covering your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others.

Thank you all! Stay safe and be well!
