It should be noted that Aqua Pennsylvania are weeks ahead of their projected timeline and are continuing those efforts to stay ahead of schedule. Aqua Pennsylvania is replacing this section of water main for several reasons. There exact age of the existing water main is not known but it is listed as an “original water main” this means it is over 60 years old. The existing main has experienced six water main breaks in this area. The new water main will be higher pressure providing the pressure required for potable use as well as the increased pressure required for firefighting capabilities.

  • Walnut Street – has been completed.

PECO gas is replacing the aged gas mains throughout the Borough. The existing mains are around 100 years old and are prone to breakage and leakage. The new gas main will have increased pressure and safety standards that will benefit all customers. PECO has been addressing the gas leaks on a case by case basis and this replacement will be of a general area that has experienced a high number of leaks and decreased pressure due to the conditions of the existing gas main. The installation of the new gas mains allowed many residents to convert to the cheaper/ cleaner gas as an alternative to fossil fuel.

PECO is investing more than $11 million to enhance the local electric distribution system for more than 4,100 customers. As a part of this project, PECO is converting eight existing 4kV distribution circuits to 13kV as well as constructing three new 13kV circuits from the Jenkintown substation. This work will reduce the number of customers affect when outages occur by automatically rerouting power. New equipment will also be installed to help isolate issues and restore power. This work will enhance PECO’s electric distribution system, improving service reliability and reducing the impact of outages for customers in the area. In addition, this work also provides enhanced restoration capabilities. Once these upgrades are complete the existing substation in Wyncote, which currently provides electric service to customers in the area, will be retired.
