PECO has notified the Borough that its gas main rehabilitation project will begin July 7, 2014. This high-priority PECO project will replace the aging gas supply infrastructure throughout the Borough, with the goal of eliminating the service disruptions the borough has experienced in recent years. Jenkintown Borough is proud to hold its annual 4th of July Parade, sponsored by the Jenkintown Volunteer Fire Department. This year’s parade will be on Friday, July 4th, 2014 at 11:30 A.M. with a rain date of Saturday, July 5th, 2014 at 11:30 A.M.
The celebration will once again feature a parade of local fire trucks, color guard, bands, and decorated bikes for children. At the conclusion of the Parade, awards will be given in Town Square for the Best Decorated Bikes. This year’s awards will be divided into three (3) categories; Strollers & Wagons, Tricycles, and Bikes. There will also be games for all ages, including the “Peanut Scramble,” “Egg Toss,” and various “Hula Hoop Contests.”
This year’s parade route will begin on Leedom Street and Greenwood Avenue. It will proceed North on Leedom Street to Hillside Avenue, West on Hillside Avenue to Walnut Street, South on Walnut Street to West Avenue and commence at the Town Square on Leedom Street. Hot dogs and cold beverages will be served at the Pioneer Fire Company.

Borough Hall will be closed Friday, July 4, 2014 in observance of Independence Day. We will reopen Monday, July 7, 2014 at 8:00 am.

In observance of Independence Day, trash and recycling will be collected Saturday, July 5th. Residents are reminded to have all items for collection out by 7:00 a.m. in order to ensure collection.

To celebrate next Monday’s long-awaited reopening of the Greenwood Ave. Bridge, Jenkintown and Cheltenham are presenting a “Greenwood Ave. Bridge Un-Block Party” on Sunday, June 29, 1 – 5 p.m. to be held at Ralph Morgan Park, behind the SEPTA station. Residents are invited to bring their own food and lawn games, and enjoy live instrumental R&B music in the park, courtesy of the band “Grease Monks”. A food vendor will also be onsite for purchases.
