2015 Paving Progress Update

Beginning Tuesday September 8th the following Borough roads will have a two day “Temporary No Parking” restriction from 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM so that the paving can be completed unobstructed. These roads have already been posted with the required signage that goes in to affect Tuesday September 8th at 7:00 AM. This segment of the paving project is expected to be completed and the “Temporary No Parking” restriction lifted by the end of the work day on Wednesday September 9th.

  • Summit Avenue (York to Leedom)
  • Leedom Street (Summit to West)
  • Greenwood Avenue (York to Walnut)

On Wednesday September 9th the following Borough roads will have a two day “Temporary No Parking” restriction from 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM so that the work can be completed unobstructed. These roads will be posted with the required signage that goes in to affect Wednesday September 9th at 7:00 AM. This segment of the paving project is expected to be completed and the “Temporary No Parking” restriction lifted by the end of the work day on Thursday September 10th.

  • Healy Street (Entire length)
  • Division Street (Entire length)
  • Cedar Street (Hillside to Greenwood)

The following roads will be paved immediately following the paving of the six roads listed above. The Contractor expects to complete all paving on this phase of the project by the end of next week. The exact day the paving will begin and end on the following streets can not be scheduled at this time due to possible inclement weather forecast and the possibility of factors occurring that are beyond the control of the Contractor.

  • Linden Street (Entire length)
  • Maple Street (Hillside to West)
  • Hillside Avenue (York to Elm)

Please remember that it is still very important to remove your vehicle prior to the 7:00 AM start of work so this project can stay on schedule and be completed expeditiously. The areas of Temporary No Parking will be posted with signage to that affect and shown in email blasts as well as the Borough website. There will be no access at times during the paving operation. As the project progresses, frequent email blasts will be sent out updating the specific Construction sequence. The paving contract requires that the road be paved within 7 days once the road has been milled. A complete list of the Borough Roads completed and to be paved are provided below.
Roads Completed
Borough Roads – Elm Street (Cheltena to Hillside), Florence Avenue (Greenwood to West), Greenwood Avenue (Train station to Walnut), Runnymede Avenue (Entire length), Hillside Avenue (Florence to Highland), Cheltena Avenue (Entire length).
State Roads – York Road (Entire Length) and West Avenue (Walnut to York).

All efforts are being made to limit the disturbance and inconvenience to residents and businesses during this project. This is the final phase of this infrastructure project and the Borough appreciates the patience and understanding demonstrated by all throughout.
On the 2015 Paving Project the following Borough roads will be paved full width (curb to curb):

  • Cedar Street (Hillside Avenue to Greenwood Avenue)
  • Cheltena Avenue (Entire length)
  • Division Street (Entire length)
  • Elm Street (Cheltena to Hillside)
  • Florence Avenue (Greenwood to West)
  • Greenwood Avenue (Train station to Walnut and Leedom to York)
  • Healy Street (Entire length)
  • Hillside Avenue (Elm to York and Highland to Florence)
  • Leedom Street (West to Summit)
  • Linden Street (Entire length)
  • Runnymede Avenue (Entire length)
  • Summit Avenue (Leedom to York)
  • West Avenue (York to Washington)

The following Borough roads will be paved half width (curb to center line of road):

  • Greenwood Avenue (Walnut to Leedom)
  • Maple Street (Hillside to West)

Borough Paving Schedule and Update Report

Beginning Monday August 31st the following Borough roads will have a “Temporary No Parking” restriction during the day so that the work can be completed unobstructed. These roads have already been posted with the required signage that goes in to affect Monday August 31st at 7:00 AM.
  • Cheltena Avenue (Entire Length)  Final Paving Monday
  • Hillside Avenue (Elm to York)
  • Cedar Street (Hillside to Greenwood)
  • Maple Street (Hillside to West)
  • Linden Avenue (Entire Length)
  • Healy Street (Entire Length)
  • Division Street (Entire Length)

Beginning Tuesday September 1st the following Borough roads will have a “Temporary No Parking” restriction so that the work can be completed unobstructed. This work was postponed one day due to the Special Television Event being held at West Avenue Grill on Monday morning at 8:30 AM.

Final paving to begin this week!

Borough Roads – The large majority of the required concrete repairs have been scheduled or completed. The paving contract has been signed and the Borough paving operation will be commencing Tuesday, August 18th at 7:00 AM. The Borough road work will begin with the milling of Greenwood Avenue and Florence Avenue first to minimize the impact to the School. There will be no parking on either side of the roads being milled between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM for the workers safety and protection of privately owned vehicles. The areas will be clearly posted with “Temporary No Parking” signs. Please have all vehicles off the roadway prior to 7:00 AM on Tuesday so that the construction can begin without delay. There will be limited access during the milling operation and no access at times during the paving operation. The Contractor is General Asphalt and they will be providing a detailed schedule that will be shared in the Borough updates. As the paving progresses, email blasts will be sent out updating the specific Road Closure sequence. Once all roads are milled the paving operation will immediately follow. Train station upgrades began last night

The combined efforts of local governmental and community groups have put the ball in motion for the historic Jenkintown-Wyncote Train Station. For months, SEPTA, along with Jenkintown Borough, Cheltenham Township and many others, have met and discussed and reviewed plans for the renovation of the exterior of the historic Jenkintown-Wyncote Train Station. These renovations include extensive canopy repairs, improvements to the slate roof and exterior of the main station building and upgrades to the switching tower and baggage/waiting rooms.
